This app is built to be useful in real life when you’re holding a product in your hand. You can type the barcode, paste it, or scan it with your camera. After lookup, you’ll get a structured dashboard: product identity, nutrition highlights, ingredient insights, allergens, dietary flags, and practical actions like saving to favorites or exporting.

Tips: Enter to search, / focuses the barcode field. If you’re comparing products, use Favorites + Export to build a small personal “shortlist”.

Welcome. This app helps you turn a barcode into a usable “decision dashboard”. Instead of hunting through tiny label text, you get a structured view: identity, nutrition highlights, ingredients, allergens, and quick tools for comparing products. Everything you save (history, favorites, notes) is stored locally in your browser.

1) Getting a barcode (EAN/UPC)

  • Most products have a barcode number printed under the bars (often 8, 12, 13, or 14 digits).
  • You can type it, paste it, or tap Scan to use your camera (depends on device/browser support).
  • If a lookup fails, try double-checking the digits or test a different barcode from another product.

2) Understanding the Overview tab

  • At-a-glance nutrition emphasizes common “compare items fast” numbers (energy, sugars, saturated fat, salt).
  • Dietary flags are best-effort hints from available product tags (e.g., vegetarian/vegan) and ingredient scanning.
  • Allergen highlights combines database allergen tags and text scanning to help you spot common triggers quickly.
  • Ingredient insights can surface “ultra-processed-ish” clues like sweeteners, palm oil, emulsifiers, or E-numbers when present.

3) Nutrition tab: per 100g vs per serving

  • Per 100g is best for comparing products fairly.
  • Per serving can be useful for estimating what you actually eat—if the serving size is available and realistic.
  • The Quick scoring area is a simple comparison helper (not medical advice). Use it as a “tie-breaker” between similar items.

4) Ingredients & Allergens tab

  • Copy ingredients helps when you want to share or translate the ingredient list.
  • Find additives scans for common additive markers like E-numbers (e.g., E322) and groups what it finds.
  • Allergen labels vary. This app shows both what’s explicitly tagged and what is detected from ingredient text.

5) Tools tab: comparing and personal notes

  • Compare two barcodes loads a second product and shows side-by-side values for key nutrients.
  • Notes are for your own shopping logic (e.g., “good for workouts”, “avoid due to lactose”). Notes are saved per barcode.
  • Export lets you download JSON snapshots of current product, history, or favorites.

6) Privacy & storage (user-focused)

  • Your history, favorites, and notes are stored in localStorage in your browser.
  • You can clear history at any time. Favorites are separate so you don’t lose your shortlist accidentally.
  • Share links only include the barcode number so someone else can open the same product in their browser.

7) Pro tips

  • Use Per 100g for fair comparisons, then switch to Per serving for realism.
  • Save a few items to Favorites and export them when you’re building a “best options” list.
  • For allergies: treat results as a convenience preview, not a replacement for reading the physical label.
